Love notes
in lunch boxes.
My Mom wrote one to me every. single. day. [Thanks, Mom!] And now, I get to do that very same thing for my two littles. Well, at least on the days they take their lunches to school. The Firefly is pretty steady in this department; the Koala, not so much. But when his sister pointed out that by partaking in hot lunch, he misses getting a love note, he did at least pause to weigh that decision.
To prevent
this, I came up with a quick schedule (whose theme begins with the same letter
as the day—except for Friday, because I’m not that creative) to keep me
thinking of different things to say each morning.
It goes
without saying that this only works on the mornings I can remember what day it
is…
Mondays: Why I’m glad I’m your Mom.
Tuesdays: What your teacher has told me about
you [good things].
Wednesdays: How you make my (or the) world a better
place, just by being in it.
Thursdays: Something about you that I’m thankful
for.
Fridays: What I can’t
wait to do with you this weekend.
I remember how
much I looked forward to my lunchbox love notes; and I know the kids
appreaciate them, because when I clean out drawers, I always find a stash of
these notes tucked away for re-reading.
It makes me I’m glad that I get to carry that tradition on with my
kids. Because it’s really the little
things that can make their day.
